HÄUSER AWARD 2023: 15,000 euros for the best individual houses

HÄUSER AWARD 2023: 15,000 euros for the best individual houses
HÄUSER, the Bund Deutscher Architektinnen und Architekten (BDA), the Verband Privater Bauherren e. V. (VPB), JUNG and Parkett Dietrich are looking for the best single family houses. The winners will receive a total of 15,000 euros in prize money.

The next round of the HÄUSER AWARD is getting underway – and because we’re holding our architecture contest for the 20th time, we’re marking the anniversary by opening the competition up to all forms and typologies of private house, without narrowing the focus in any way. We want to shine a light on the entire spectrum of current developments and trends. The way we build and live has changed considerably over the last few years and decades, and we will continue to find ourselves confronted with new challenges in the future too: climate change and dwindling resources, as well as social and demographic changes, call for a change of thinking.

That’s why we’re looking for the best individual houses that not only address the issues of today but have their sights set on the future too. New builds, rebuilds or conversions, in the city or in the countryside, with intelligent energy concepts, innovative construction methods or eco-friendly materials, space-saving designs or flexible floor plans: the awards will be presented to particularly compelling, cleverly planned and sophisticatedly designed houses that prove the private home is fertile ground for new and exemplary solutions of outstanding architectural quality.

We are holding the HÄUSER AWARD 2023 in collaboration with the Bund Deutscher Architektinnen und Architekten (BDA), the Verband Privater Bauherren e. V. (VPB), JUNG and Parkett Dietrich.

The results of the competition are scheduled for publication in HÄUSER in March 2023, and an award ceremony at which the winners will be officially announced and honoured is also scheduled to take place. In addition, there are plans to present the best projects in a book that is expected to be published by Prestel Verlag, Munich.

Furthermore, in collaboration with our media partner, television news channel n-tv, we also intend to present each of the winning projects in the form of a short film wherever possible.

Conditions of entry

Architects from all over Europe are eligible to enter the competition. Participation is free of charge.

They must be the originators of the projects submitted. The houses must have been completed after 01 January 2019 and not have been previously published in a general-interest magazine. In addition, the award winners must agree that the winning houses will not be published in any other general-interest magazine prior to the announcement and publication of the competition results (scheduled to appear in HÄUSER 2/2023).

The prize money

The total prize money of 15,000 euros will be allocated as follows:

1st prize: 7,000 euros
2nd prize: 5,000 euros
3rd prize: 3,000 euros

The jury may choose to allocate the prize money differently.

The VPB will pay the owner/client of each award-winning house an additional bonus of 1,000 euros. This does not apply if the owner is also the architect of the house.

Interior Prize

The Interior Prize, which is held in collaboration with PARKETT DIETRICH, is presented to an interior design of outstanding quality. The jury of the HÄUSER AWARD 2023 will select one winner from among all the entries submitted.
